Education & Training

Over the last 20 years ParaQuad NSW has been offering training about spinal cord injury to personal carers and a number of other groups in the community.

In 2008 we are offering training for personal carers through our public calendar of workshops as well as a number of offerings for other professionals who may be working with clients with a spinal cord injury.

Training for Personal Carers
Our public calendar of training is developed for personal carers working in the community with people with spinal cord injury (SCI) or similar physical disabilities.

‘Understanding Spinal Cord Injury’ is an overview of the effect of spinal cord injury and the associated personal care requirements.

‘Handling Difficult Situations’ is an interactive workshop which allows participants to explore some of the difficult situations they face in their work and identify some strategies to manage them.

Specialist Training for Community Health
Workshops for Occupational Therapists will be conducted in 2008. The workshops will look at the specialist knowledge required to assist clients with a spinal cord injury.

Specialist education for Registered Nurses about spinal cord injury is being offered as customised in-service sessions.

Training for Social Housing Providers
After a successful pilot in Sydney and Coffs Harbour we will be offering workshops to Community Housing and Government Housing groups about the needs of people with a spinal cord injury.
