For Personal Carers

There are two different workshops in the calendar; click on the blue bars for more information.

A public calendar of training, developed for personal carers, will be conducted at our Newington Office.

'Understanding Spinal Cord Injury'

Our workshop ‘Understanding Spinal Cord Injury’ is for personal carers who have clients with a spinal cord injury living in the community.

The workshop gives an overview of the causes and effects of a spinal cord injury and the specific personal care tasks that participants might be delivering. It also explores the underlying reasons why these procedures are so important to the client’s health.

Participants have come from both public and private sector agencies. They are usually personal carers, service coordinators, community support staff, family members or anyone involved in supporting a person with a spinal cord injury.

The workshop is run with trainer presentations, small group sessions and practical demonstrations. More detailed course content is available here

'Handling Difficult Situations'

This workshop is designed for personal carers working in the community. It allows participants to identify which situations are difficult for them to handle, examine what contributes to those situations and work through various strategies to manage them.

This is a very interactive workshop so there are only limited places available. More detailed course content is available here

Please note that we do not aim to cover situations which include violent or seriously challenging behaviours in this workshop
