The Fundraising Institute Australia calls on the newly elected Labor Government to honour its election promise to drive a major reform agenda for Australia's not-for-profit sector.
"The FIA warmly welcomed the Prime Minister Julia Gillard's promise on August 9 to immediately establish a Commonwealth-level Office for the Non-Profit sector to drive and co-ordinate the policy reform agenda within government," FIA CEO Chris McMillan said.
"We now look forward to the swift establishment of that office, along with Ms Gillard's other undertakings to: Create greater harmonisation and simplification of regulation between federal, state and territory governments; and Reduce red-tape for government-funded NFP organisations."
Ms McMillan said the FIA had fought long and hard, alongside other key bodies, to convince the Federal Government of the importance of creating a more supportive working environment for NFPs.
"And we want to continue that dialogue with the government," Ms McMillan said.
"The FIA calls on the Labor Government to continue its consultations with the FIA and other peak industry bodies to ensure the best outcomes for the sector.
"When the Labor Government's plans to strengthen the sector are realised, they will ensure improved transparency and accountability, as well as even better outcomes for all those people and causes assisted by the NFP sector."
