Supporting people of all ages with spinal injury or similar needs to achieve their choices in life
ParaQuad NT: About Us
ParaQuad NT is a division of ParaQuad NSW and exists to “support people of all ages with spinal cord injury or other similar related health conditions to achieve their choices in life”. As ParaQuad NT continues to expand, our services will be developed and tailored to the needs of people within the Northern Territory.
As the NDIS expands across the country we will continue to work with participants. ParaQuad have developed tools such as the Pre Planning Guide and Being Continence Ready Factsheet that can assist with this transition. These tools are available on request.
BrightSky Australia, the social enterprise of ParaQuad, is co-located within the ParaQuad NT Darwin office and is a registered NDIS provider.
Having paraplegia and quadriplegia affects many aspects of a person’s life, including the management of bowel functions. Part of the benefits of becoming a ParaQuad member allows you to access a special program under Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for bowel care medicines (enemas and aperients). This program permits a member to access certain enemas and aperients (to a maximum monthly allocation), and the costs of these products are covered by the Australian Government. Additional products may need to be purchased, and can be done so outside of this program.
ParaQuad Personal Care Assistant Training
For over 30 years, ParaQuad NSW has provided specialised carer training on how to provide personal care to people with spinal cord injury or similar health care needs inclusive of bowel care. This service is also offered by ParaQuad NT. All training is in line with current best practice and will be provided by senior clinicians with extensive experience in community based spinal cord injury management.
ParaQuad and BrightSky are committed to best practice and as such offer clinical education to healthcare professionals. The BeBright Study series was established in 2010 to provide up-to-date education to healthcare professionals. The series successfully relaunched in 2017 with a focus on NDIS, and will be held again in 2018.
The Study Series looks at product prescription and current best practices.
Our long running Scholarship Program aims to support people with a spinal cord injury and similar neurological disabilities to pursue educational and career training. Supports of up to $5,000 are awarded to multiple recipients annually, to assist in funding items such as tuition fees, textbooks, computer equipment and other supports to ease the financial burden of obtaining the education and skill required for future employment.
ParaQuad News Magazine
The ParaQuad News magazine is a quarterly publication produced in-house to inform, educate and entertain our members on a range of issues. The magazine is a vital source of news and information about what’s been happening at ParaQuad, Government funding and spans other helpful topics such as health, travel, lifestyle, technology and more.
